Short history of the ‘West Gonja Hospital’
The West Gonja Hospital has been established by an agricultural company (Workers, Brigade) as a health care clinic for its employées and their families. In 1954, the Catholic Church took over administration of the hospital. Nowadays the hospital is lead by the Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI) who have taken over administration from the SSpS Congregation in June 1999.
From 1954, the hospital has seen progression en development in both infrastructural enlargement and improvement of service. The hospital is a agencyhospital and also offers its services as the District Hospital for the West Gonja District.

From London to Ghana – Emmanuel Kummah
Mr Emmanuel Kummah is back in Damongo after completing his studies in London. He studied a masters in International Health Services and Hospital Management and got a distinction for this course. He is happy to be back in Damongo again and to use this background in his work as the Administrator of the West Gonja Hospital. MUSTANGH has partly contributed to his education in London, Mr Emmanuel Kummah expresses all his thanks to MUSTANGH for this.

Mr Anthony Jatoe has been the contact person in the West Gonja Hospital for MUSTANGH for the last 1.5 year. Now Emmanuel Kummah is back, he will take over this responsibility. Thank you Anthony Jatoe for this nice collaboration!
Health Week celebration Ghana
From September 30th until Oktober 9th 2011 the West Gonja Hospital organized a Health Week in the area around the hospital. Several activities took place, such as:
- the health walk
- a lecture about diabetes
- offerings to the poor
- cleaning excersises inside and around the hospital.
- a soccer tournament
- free screening on the damongo marketsquare for (a.o.) bloodpressure and eye function
