Opleiding gynaecologen

In september 2017 zijn twee artsen begonnen aan de opleiding tot gynaecoloog. In overleg met het ziekenhuis is gekozen voor: Dr. Jonathan en Dr. Anthony. Voordat Dr. Jonathan en Dr. Anthony hun opleidingen hadden afgerond, waren er geen gynaecologen in het ziekenhuis. Deze waren uiteraard wel hard nodig, om de zorg voor zwangere vrouwen in het St. Anne’s Hospital te optimaliseren en maternale sterfte terug te dringen. Beiden zijn in 2017 begonnen met de specialisatie tot gynaecoloog en hebben in 2020 hun opleidingen afgerond. Ze behaalden goede resultaten tijdens hun studie. Ze hebben aangegeven dat het zeker druk was, maar dat ze vooral veel plezier hadden gedurende hun studie.

Persoonlijk stukje van Dr. Anthony:
“I am 34 years old, married without kids, a staff of The West Gonna Hospital (nu St. Anne’s Hospital), and currently a 2nd year Resident in obstetrics and gynecology, Ghana college of physicians and surgeons; being trained in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
I hail from Feo,a farming community in the Bongo district upper East region.i have 3siblings , playing football is my passion and I love to watch movies during my leisure time. Both my basic and secondary education were in the upper East but most importantly I attended Notre Dame minor seminary secondary school which formed me to have the passion to be a doctor, I graduated from University for development studies, Tamale in 2012, had my housejob training in Tamale teaching hospital and officially started work as a medical officer in WGH on 1st September 2014.
I’m currently in the Maternal fetal medicine unit, obstetric gynaecology KBTH, where I get do obstetric scans (routine and fetal anomaly). I have completed rotations in radiooncology, radiology, general surgery, anaesthesia, NICU, Assisted reproductive therapy, pathology and will soon commence 3rd in November 2019.
Graduating as an obstetrician/ gynaecologist will make me better suited to achieving my passion to deliver quality health care and continue to build and improve the treasured love I have for maternal and reproductive health.”
